TREVOR KEEVER -- IN HIS OWN WORDS
FOX FORUM: Why did you choose to wear the pin at the Home Depot?
TREVOR KEEZER, FIRED BY HOME DEPOT FOR WEARING PIN: "To show support of my country, the troops and veterans and my love for God."
FF: Why do you think you were fired?
TK: "Because my pin read "Under God" on it. I brought my Bible to work to read alone and I never pushed my religion in anyone's face."
FF: If you had to do it all over again would you still wear the pin?
TK: "Sure would."
FF: Why do you think you were fired after wearing the pin for more than a year?
TK: "I don't understand, they told me in the meeting because my pin said "Under God" so it had to come off."
FF: Do you have a message for other Home Depot employees?
TK: "I have a message for everyone, not just Home Depot employees, to stand up for what you believe in."
FF: What are your next steps?
TK: "Whatever God has in store for me."
TREVOR'S ATTORNEY KAREN JORGENSEN ON WHY SHE AND CO-COUNSEL KARA SKORUPA TOOK KEEZER'S CASE
Our client, Trevor, has been with Home Depot for over a year. In that year, he has worked diligently, received several awards for his hard work, was never late to work, and gave no reason for his employer to complain. The only complaint his employer had was that Trevor chose to show his belief in God and his country by choosing to wear a pin that read "One Nation, Under God, Indivisible." And for that, the company fired him.
Trevor wasn't alone. Several employees at the Home Depot also wore personal pins. Trevor's pin read "God" and the company fired him for it.
This case is more than just any legal case; it stands for the freedom to practice one's religion and display one's beliefs at work. Our nation was founded on the principle of giving each person the right to practice their religion and express their beliefs, regardless of what they believe in. Trevor also deserves that right, and by representing him, we hope to help him claim it.
