Egypt to get $1.525 billion in aid

Fox has learned that omnibus spending bill will provide Egypt with $1.525 billion in aid for this fiscal year.

$1.3 billion is in military assistance and $250 million is in civilian assistance.

There were questions last summer about whether Egypt should receive any assistance at all because of the military coup. The coup put the U.S. in a strange position as it typically does not provide aid to nations and government after a coup of a democratically-elected government as it’s a violation of the law.

UAE extends $3 billion aid package to Egypt

DUBAI, July 9 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates will provide a $1 billion grant to Egypt and a $2 billion loan as an interest-free central bank deposit, state news agency WAM said on Tuesday.

The announcement came during a UAE delegation visit to interim head of state Adli Mansour at the presidential palace in Cairo, WAM said.

The UAE delegation included the Gulf country's national security adviser, foreign minister and energy minister.

News Update: Blind Sheikh

Egyptian President Mohamad Morsi said in an interview Monday that he plans to visit the United States later this year and will urge President Obama to free Omar Abdul Rahman, the blind sheikh serving a life sentence for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.  This will be the Egyptian President's first visit to the United States since taking office last year following the overthrow of long-time leader Hosni Mubarak.

Morsi also said that he hoped the sheikh would be freed, but that at the very least should be allowed visitation rights.
