California Cigarette Tax? What Do You Think??
Proposition 29, a California ballot measure proposing a $1/pack tax hike on cigarettes, has the support of cycling champion Lance Armstrong and organizations like the American Cancer Society. The AP reports opponents ahead of supporters--50.8% to 49.2%--but many votes remain to be counted and the final results could take days.
We want to know-- what do you think? This would more than double the tax on cigarettes to $1.87/pack in California and statistics show health benefits--for example-- research shows when taxes on cigarettes increase, smoking among pregnant Americans decreases. Is this fair?
