Grapevine: Flight shows grounded due to sequester

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Air Ball

One of the highlights of air shows, graduations and the start of baseball season is noticeably missing this year thanks to the sequester.

The Navy has canceled all performances by its Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron for the rest of the 2013 year because of budget cuts.

The Army's Golden Knights parachute team and the Air Force's Thunderbirds are making similar moves.

There were no fly-bys or drop-ins for opening day baseball games and the Thunderbirds will not have their traditional show at the Air Force Academy's graduation.

Air Shows across the country are scaling back, in fact. Myrtle Beach has canceled its show altogether on news that its headliner -- the Thunderbirds -- were pulling out.

Be Prepared

A bill aimed at pressuring the Boy Scouts to end their ban on gay members and leaders cleared its first vote in the California legislature today.

The Senate Governance and Finance Committee approved a measure to get rid of tax breaks for any youth group that discriminates based on factors such as sexual preference.

Lawyers for the Alliance Defending Freedom sent a letter to lawmakers saying quote -- "This type of targeted punishment of a group based on how it exercises its associational and free speech rights violates the First Amendment."

The Boy Scouts of America have said they will revisit their membership policy when the National Council meets next month.

Meal Ticket

And finally, what was intended as an act of gratitude has turned into a PR nightmare for the Mali government.

A camel given to France's president has been eaten.

President Francois Hollande was presented the animal in February in appreciation for France's help defending against Islamist rebels.

But a Timbuktu family tasked with watching the camel decided to cook it instead.

Mali authorities have apologized and have replaced it with -- quote -- "a bigger and better looking" camel.
