I watch Fox because I want *news*, not propaganda. The TMZ/Beyonce video hardly qualifies as "news." I understand that many are interested in such twaddle, but does that justify the excessive [IMO] near-constant and repeated showings of the video?
Re: The segment about Gilbert Gottfried's appearance on "Dr. Drew," I note that Howie and Lauren both focused on whether the comic's comments were offensive and/or sexist. Left unaddressed was whether or not they were true. If Fox and other networks actually did hire female contributors on the basis of relevant intelligence alone, I'm sure we would see a fair number of women who don't fit the "Playboy channel" criteria that Gottfried referenced...
I like all the gracious, intelligent ladies on Fox BUT feel they are not being presented properly. Sometimes I feel like they are dressing more like beauty pageant contestants. I think they would be more readily accepted if they didn't show so much LEG! Sorry but I think negative comments should be welcome in light of today's discussion.
Folks, I can certainly relate to Ms. Hemingway. I've had five (5) suicides in my family and wondered if "my" time might come someday. But so far I'm feeling safe.
Perhaps racism charges should be examined through the same filter as slander/libel. If the claims by the "supposed racists" are proven "true", the racism charge should be dismissed/ignored. (Motivation can be interesting, but is far less important than the truth to me.)
It might be worth taking a look at the front cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone out on Friday - Julia Louis-Dreyfus Is Naked on the New Cover of Rolling Stone (for a liberal magazine that I'm sure would deny accusations of sexism this seems like a very questionable way to sell itself)
Perfect example of what's wrong with our culture and country. Marisa (representing the Hwood position I assume) says he's just a comedian and hopes we don't hold David Letterman to the same standard as politicians. How about we have one standard of decency and integrity for everybody? In the world of real people, it's the same for us all and I teach my kids one standard. Good riddance David Letterman or anyone left or right who chooses to treat people badly or play by his own rules.
You mentioned that the GM story had not been getting much TV news coverage. I wonder if one reason for that might be the high percentage of TV affiliate station revenue from automobile advertising? Stations and their networks may be reluctant to bite the hand that writes large checks.
