"Happening Now" got to attend the Spring 2014 show for Venexiana.. a high end gown collection designed by the Hungarian-born Kati Stern. The line was launched in 2003, and is sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. It was heavy on sequins, sparkles and pastel colors. There was some very creative use of something we saw frequently at NYFW.. flowers. They appeared here in both large sequins and as a lovely print. Lots of strapless gowns too.

New York Fashion Week has come and gone once again. Debate is raging in the industry about the value of the semi-annual event, and many designers and fashionistas are complaining bitterly about Lincoln Center (along with Upper West Side neighbors), and the sheer number of events. There are even rumors the shows could be moved to the new Hudson Yard Development someday. Despite the agita about the future of the shows, it's still big business... continue reading »

In an interview backstage before the show she told me the African-Cuban theme is one she returns to again and again.
There was a strong masculine/feminine aesthetic. Take a look at the model pairing she started the show with... continue reading »
Vivienne Tam's Spring 2014 show at Lincoln Center yesterday was a tribute to Shanghai. It was a return to a far East inspiration for the Chinese-born designer.
Tam told me backstage that she was inspired by 1930's Shanghai calendar girls. Tam called her "the new Shanghai girl - A woman who travels a lot, is comfortable and free, and can go day to evening."
Tam's runway featured a skyline illustration of China's largest city, and the skyline pattern showed up on some of the clothes too... continue reading »
Last night was the Ralph Rucci show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Rucci showed his attention to detail again this season with impeccable fit and tailoring. Black, white and nude were the dominate colors with splashes of coral, bronze and silver. The models were truckin' down the runway in a show that was fast-paced and featured a lot of looks... continue reading »
