• Iraq Civil War? Cantor Loss = Capitol Hill Power Struggle. Immigration Flood Overwhelming Borders?

Power struggle underway right now on Capitol Hill as Republicans work to fill the position of House Majority Leader. Now there's a scramble to move up the leadership chain by other members. Elections will be held June 19. There are news conferences today by both sides of the aisle. We'll be especially interested to hear from John Boehner at his weekly media availability.

Another big story for us today is the continued flood of child illegal immigrants into the U.S. Reuters is reporting that a third military base is being opened to house the children. The White House has asked for some $2 billion to help feed and house the children (and some adults.)

      Reuters says,

"An Army base at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, will initially hold 600 "unaccompanied minors" and eventually will be able to accommodate up to 1,200. The moves come amid a tidal wave of children trying to slip into the United States, largely from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, often to join a parent already here."

Iraq continues to deteriorate today. Al-Qaeda linked terrorists have seized Iraq's second largest city of Mosul and Tikrit which has Iraq's largest oil refinery near the city. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant says it will march on Baghdad next. The Shia group is also threatening attacks on the Holy Shi'ite cities of Karbala and Najaf.

Many say the mess is the fault of the failed presidency of Nouri al-Maliki. He has inflamed Shi'ite/Shia tensions. Some Republican lawmakers here are also blaming the Obama Administration for pulling U.S. troops from Iraq.

At least 10 are dead after an apparent U.S. drone strike in Pakistan near the Afghan border.

There's a Category 3 hurricane off the coast of Mexico. Not threatening the coast with a direct hit, but stirring up rip currents and high surfs.
