It's the 70th anniversary of D-Day. As I write this, President Obama is marking the day on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France with French President Francois Hollande. More than 9,000 soldiers died on D-Day as the Allied rescue of Europe got underway in 1944. President Obama says the American commitment to liberty is "written in blood," on the beaches of Normandy.
Here at home, there is a ceremony and wreath laying at the World War II Memorial in Washington DC.

Senators announced a bipartisan deal last night to help the VA overcome the many problems uncovered by the VA hospital scandal. It will address health-care failures by spending $500 million to hire more doctors and nurses. It will also allow veterans to be cared for outside the overburdened system, and give the next veterans secretary greater authority to fire employees for incompetence. Doug McKelway reporting.

We get May jobs numbers today as the markets are poised for new record highs. Analysts are expecting that 218,000 jobs were created in May.. with 6.4% unemployment. We could also hit Dow 17,000!! Markets yesterday loved the lowering of interest rates in the European Union.
A Seattle Pacific University student was able to disarm a gunman who went on a shooting rampage at a University building. The 26-year-old shooter was reloading after shooting and killing a teenager, and wounding three other people when he was disarmed with a shot of mace to the face. Dan Springer reporting.
