• Ukraine Says It Has Been Invaded; What Will the U.S. Do to Help A Budding Democracy on the Edge of Europe?

      The tensions are ramping up in Eastern Europe today. Russia continues to pour troops and military resources into Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine, and says it now controls all of the Crimean peninsula. Many are wondering if the Eastern parts of Ukraine are the next military objective for the Russians. Russia continues to insist it is simply defending its citizens and interests in parts of Ukraine. Ukraine is calling it an invasion.

      President Obama is making some aggressive moves to try and get a handle on the increasingly tense situation. President Obama has been reaching out to allies around the world, and is reportedly considering kicking Russia out of the G-8, putting sanctions on Russia, and is sending Secretary of State John Kerry to Kiev tomorrow for talks with the new Europe-leaning government there.

      President Obama meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today at the White House. Iran will be a big topic, but Ukraine likely to be discussed as well. President Obama is also going to ask Netanyahu to reopen peace talks with the Palestinians. (Obama meets with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas later this month). Doug McKelway and Wendell Goler are reporting on the White House moves today.

      Keep an eye on the markets today as fear over the situation in Ukraine is likely to hit stocks.
