• Thursday June 6, 2013 Happening Now - 2 Hearings to Watch Today

New reporting suggests Verizon customers' data is being shared with the federal government. The data sharing comes via court order according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. It will likely raise fresh questions about the NSA and spying on American citizens.

New polling from the Wall Street Journal suggests support for the President's signature health care overhaul is slipping. The news comes as the White House gears up for a big push to get the public to sign up for the government program.

More investigative reporting from the Wall Street Journal suggests a link between Washington and the investigation of certain political groups' tax exempt-status. Two employees from the IRS Cincinnati office are reportedly telling investigators Washington was directing the probing of tea party linked groups. Still no direct connection to the White House, but the statements appear to contradict statements from high-ranking IRS officials.

Today the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is holding a hearing into the ridiculous IRS spending on conferences from 2010 to 2012. We'll likely listen to some of this live.

0930EDT -- House Oversight and Govt Reform Cmte hearing on "Collected and Wasted: The IRS Spending Culture and Conference Abuses." IRS Inspector Gen J. Russell George, Treasury Asst Inspector Gen for Audit Gregory Kutz, IRS Small Business & Self-Employed Div Cmsner Faris Fink, and acting IRS Cmsner Danny Werfel testify. LIVE / FNC TAPE STAKEOUT

We've also learned two IRS managers are under suspension for accepting gifts in violation of ethics policies.

That hearing comes as we get fresh reports that EPA workers created so-called "man caves" to ‘chil-lax' in while at work. Not exactly a lesson in trust-building at a government agency.

Attorney General Eric Holder says he is not stepping down despite increasing calls for his resignation over the various scandals plaguing the administration. Today he's testifying before a Senate committee on an unrelated matter, but there's no doubt he will get questions on the IRS scandal and/or the DOJ investigation into leaks that may have inappropriately impaired the Freedom of the Press.

1045EDT -- Senate Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcmte holds hearing on "The Dept of Justice's FY2014 Budget Request." Atty Gen Eric Holder and Justice Inspector Gen Michael Horowitz testify. LIVE / LIVE STAKEOUT via LiveU

Immigration overhaul may be in some trouble. The House of Reps is having trouble coming up with their own version.

The first tropical storm of the hurricane season is targeting Florida. Andrea has winds nearing 60 miles per hour, and a storm warning is in effect for a section of Florida's West Coast.

A sad turn in the story we covered live during yesterday's Happening Now. Six now confirmed dead in a massive building collapse in downtown Philadelphia. A 61-year-old woman was pulled out alive more than two hours after the collapse. At least 14 people were injured. Searches continue of the site.
