• Fall 2013 Collection of Charles Harbison debuts in New York City Art Gallery

More behind the scenes action from New York City.

Last night saw the debut collection of ready to wear from New York designer Charles Harbison. He showed his new line of men's and women's clothing at the C24 Gallery in the heart of Chelsea's art district for Fall of 2013. The clothes were presented like high-art sculptures placed among the gallery's cutting-edge paintings.

The clothes were a wearable mix of masculine and feminine shapes and colors. The collection has lots of layering with many mixing possiblities. Charles used cool fabrics like melange and tropical wools, moleskin, jersey, and lambskin.

A clearly excited Harbison said he wanted to show at the gallery outside of fashion week #NYFW to try and bring the collection to the attention of New York buyers. He currently sells in several locations, but wants to develop sales in the New York area.

He said the collection was inspired by gender-bending artists like singer Patti Smith and photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and by his love of American sport and sportswear. His bio says "HARBISON seeks to serve the woman -- and man - who sees beauty through the lens of androgyny, modernity, and luxury."

Guest Melissa Deshon said "I thought the clothes were fabulous."

I expect we'll be seeing much more from this talented young man.
