One of the benefits of working for a big news company in New York City is the opportunity to attend events like New York Fashion Week #NYFW.
Last night I got to attend the debut appearance of an up-and-coming young designer named Elliott Evan at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
Evan is just 26 according to his bio. He got his start in fashion in San Francisco, and his clothes are described as "avante-garde." That is a pretty neat summary of what this reporter saw. I'd describe it as a Mad Max update for 2013. In a collection called Never Forever, Evan's best pieces showcased distressed leather looks with unusual draping and cutouts, dropped crotches and splashes of demure color.
Ben Wills, the talent behind the blog TheWellDressedMan.net, called the show a perfect marriage of a hardcore and a softee. She raved about the construction and symmetry of the collection. Wills said the clothes are for "the guy that dreams of being Billy badass, but wouldn't hurt a fly."
If the Evan show is any indication, the top knot hairstyle is making a comeback. Evan sent his male models down the runway with loose buns on top of the head. Hair and faces also got a frosted, almost-jeweled look.
Very cool clothes especially if, like the crowd at the show, you're young and adventurous.
