• PROTESTERS TAKE TO THE STREETS IN PHOENIX

      Hundreds of angry people have been marching the streets of Phoenix since dawn. They're protesting Arizona's strict new immigrations laws. Apparently they weren't appeased by a judge's decision to strike down some of the most controversial provisions:

      • Police will not be required to determine immigration status during all stops;
      • Immigrants will not be required to keep their papers handy at all times;
      • No warrantless stops for suspected illegal immigrants;
      • Illegal immigrants will be allowed to look for work in public places.

      Demonstrators began at the Capitol this morning then headed to the federal courthouse and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office. The crowd was chanting "No one is illegal. Power to the people." They also held a prayer service at a local church.

      Some protesters have promised nonviolent civil disobedience. Three people have already been arrested, possibly for trespassing in closed-off areas.
