Who came out on top in VP debate?

Guests: Juan Williams, Fox News political analyst and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah

MARTHA RADDATZ ABC NEWS FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT: What were you first told about the attacks? Why were people talking about protests, when people in the consulate first saw armed men attacking with guns, there were no protestors. Why did that go on for weeks?

VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Because that's exactly what we were told by the intelligence community. The intelligence community told us that. As they learned more facts about exactly what happened they changed their assessment.

That's why there's also an investigation headed by Tom Pickering a leading diplomat from Reagan years who is doing an investigation into whether or not there are lapses, what the lapses were so that they will never happen again.

RADDATZ: And they wanted more security there.

BIDEN: Well, we weren't told they wanted more security.

SEAN HANNITY, HOST OF "HANNITY": And our live coverage of the vice presidential debate continues tonight from Danville, Kentucky. Joining me now from the spin room for what is sure to be a spirited debate is Fox News political analyst, Juan Williams along with Romney surrogate, Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz.

You know, I'm listening to Biden. Now this is interesting to me because our intelligence community was wrong and then he's telling us on the other hand to calm down about Iran. Those were his words, calm down.

And I'm thinking well, wait a minute. On top of it, he's lying. The intelligence community knew within 24 hours this was a terrorist attack. We know that they requested assistance and security and it was denied, multiple times. What the vice president said on this tonight, Juan is just factually false and inaccurate.

JUAN WILLIAMS, FOX NEWS POLITICAL ANALYST: Boy, I think that's way over the top for you to just call it a lie...

HANNITY: No, that's way accurate.

WILLIAMS: Call it a lie?

HANNITY: Lie. L-I-E.

WILLIAMS: You're calling the vice president a liar. You're calling the director of national intelligence a liar. He said we gave an assessment.

HANNITY: 24 hours and they knew otherwise.

WILLIAMS: No.

HANNITY: They repeated it.

WILLIAMS: What you're confusing there is an individual said do you know what? I think this guy --

HANNITY: Multiple individuals in the intelligence community.

WILLIAMS: Right. But that was not the assessment as the official assessment from the intelligence community.

REP. JASON CHAFFETZ, R-UTAH: Yesterday at the hearing Charleen Lamb testified that she could witness this virtually in real-time. Real-time, they didn't have to wait until later and Ambassador Kennedy from the State Department came to Capitol Hill within 36 hours and told members of Congress, their staff that he thought he was a terrorist attack.

WILLIAMS: What did he say yesterday, Jason?

CHAFFETZ: That's exactly what he said.

WILLIAMS: He said it was not at the time we were there; we did not think it was a terrorist attack.

CHAFFETZ: Witnessing it in real-time there was no protest. And I spent the day Saturday in Libya. There isn't a single person who ever mentioned the video.

HANNITY: I know this is important. You heard all the four hours of the testimony. So two weeks later when the president is still blaming a movie trailer he knows that is false, right? When Joe Biden said what he said tonight is inaccurate?

CHAFFETZ: I think the intelligence community knew that evening that it was a terrorist attack and had nothing to do with the video. And there was no protest.

WILLIAMS: And you're saying the corruption in the intelligence community is that they'd issue an assessment?

CHAFFETZ: No. I don't, I think it's shocking to me just that 30 days after the death of four Americans including our ambassador, 30 days afterwards he looks people in the eye and said there was never a request for more security. Absolutely, there was a request.

WILLIAMS: He didn't know about the request.

CHAFFETZ: Ignorance is not a defense.

(CROSSTALK)

HANNITY: It's been well publicized.

WILLIAMS: No. No. At the time, Sean --

HANNITY: How could he not know? Who's in charge, Juan?

WILLIAMS: What are you talking about?

HANNITY: You're saying the vice president is not in charge on the anniversary of September 11th when they train terrorists in a known hot bed for training terrorists?

WILLIAMS: Do you know what strikes me in this conversation? You guys aren't talking about the debate. Because you don't think that Representative Ryan did very well.

HANNITY: Here is what I want to say about the debate. I watch a rude condescending interruptive, mean-spirited vice president tonight this not going play well, I'll tell you now two, polls show Ryan won this debate.

I think that to be laughing when 23 million Americans are out of work, and 49 million Americans are on food stamps and one in six Americans are in poverty, and Iran is a real threat to world security. I don't think it's funny, Juan.

WILLIAMS: You know what, I think when you see someone distorting facts and going off, talking about Representative Ryan then he's saying do you know what? This is absurd what. Did he call it, malarky?

HANNITY: Why are you buying into this Benghazi cover up?

WILLIAMS: You're buying into a Benghazi cover-up because you think --

HANNITY: Laughing throughout the debate? Uncontrollably, which is bizarre and I just want to know we have serious problems on the international stage and nationally.

CHAFFETZ: If my 11-year-old daughter did that at the dinner table, I'd say come here honey we need to have a little discussion. Because that is not the way you act as a vice president. And you know what "The Colbert Report," "Jay Leno," "Jimmy Kimmel," "Saturday Night Live," they're going to like that.

(CROSSTALK)

HANNITY: Guys, good to see you. We're out of time. And that's all the time we have left.
