    • McConnell on White House Oil Spill Response

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) joined Fox News Sunday to discuss the latest on the BP oil spill and how the current crisis in the Gulf is affecting stalled energy legislation in the Senate. Much was made this week of President Obamas first Oval Office address. The president took the opportunity to urge for action on comprehensive clean energy reform. However he did not explicitly link the oil spill to the stalled cap and trade legislation. Senator McConnell did not waste any time accusing the Obama Administration of playing politics with the spill. He said, We knew what he (President Obama) was talking about They want to seize on this oil spill to pass a national energy tax referred to around Washington as cap and trade. On the White Houses response to the Gulf Oil Spill, McConnell issued this criticism, the president himself is in charge of developing a contingency plan to deal with oil spills. What happened to it? We know there are skimmers around the world that could be sent here. Where are they? The administration has a role to play in this and they haven't done a very good job so far. Finally, on the upcoming 2010 midterm elections, McConnell was asked about Tea Party favorites, and US Senate Candidates, Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sharron Angle (R-NV). Democrats are claiming that these candidates represent the Republican Party moving further to the right. In response, McConnell offered up this counterattack, the Democrats are very desperate, and they'll be working hard to try to tear down our members America would like to do a mid-course correction.
