Operation Ghost Stories was the FBI surveillance of Russian spies living in the United States. Some of these spies were here for years, living under assumed names and raising families in quiet neighborhoods in order to blend in.
Their mission was to infiltrate the U.S. government, military and other institutions in order to gather information to send back to Russia. In 2010, the FBI arrested ten of the spies, all of whom pleaded guilty and were deported back to Russia in a classic spy swap.
