Decay and government neglect: Tough lessons at Central University of Venezuela
A simple walk around the university grounds offers an eerie display of decay and neglect. The main campus, designed by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva in the fifties and declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, has been deteriorating for years.

Many hallways at the Central University of Venezuela need extensive repairs. Even though it was declared World Heritage Site in 2000, the campus' infrastructure is deteriorating fast.

Students and teachers at UCV's School of Science cleaned the labs and found out that most of the reagents and materials are out of date or useless. They took them out to the hallway. -

The Library is a symbol of the institution, but now it also shows of its deterioration. In 2015, the UCV received from the government just 38 percent of the funds it requested.
