To fire up the season, many makeup brands debut their summer beauty collections. These may include new products or revamped versions of previous best sellers. But with so many products promising to be the next makeup bag staple, it can be difficult to tell which ones fall into the "must-have," category — especially when you're busy squeezing in that last-minute workout before hitting the beach.

Fortunately, we did the legwork for you and tested out some of the top brands.
Before you invest in some of the new products out there, check out our beauty favorites for summer 2013:
Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm, Splendours Summer 2013 Colour Collection $26
Although a lip balm, this product acts as a lipstick and lip gloss in one, making it great for traveling. Clarins released the balm in four shades: rose, mandarin, plum, and berry. The lipstick portion is highly pigmented, and the surrounding gloss adds a nice finish and effectively moisturizes lips.
Too Faced Summer Eyes, Hello Sunshine Collection $36
This eye shadow palette offers nine shadows with a range from very shimmery to matte. It's an excellent beginner’s palette that is budget friendly and offers multiple color combinations. A "glamour guide" is included to demonstrate ways to use the shadows to create a variety of looks like "day," "classic," and "fashion."
Too Faced Bronzed & Poreless Pore Perfecting Bronzer, Hello Sunshine Collection $30
As the name suggests, this bronzer did not exaggerate the large-pored areas of the face, but rather gave an appearance of smooth skin where applied. Because it is fragrance and oil free, it won’t irritate even the most sensitive of skin. An extra bonus is that the bronzer is matte, so it won’t add additional shine to oily-skinned women.
Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream, Aqua Summer 2013 $23
The MUFE Aqua Cream is very easy to apply using fingers, which makes it great for travel. Color is extremely pigmented. The waterproof composition guarantees long-lasting pigmentation and I was pleasantly surprised to find no creasing even on a warm, humid day.
(Make Up For Ever)
Dior Addict Lip Maximizer, Bird of Paradise $31
This gloss promises to “boost volume instantly,”and it actually delivers! Lips are plumped slightly to give a fuller, natural appearance. Like most lip boosters, there’s a tingling sensation when applied, but it is not overwhelming. Although pricey for a lip gloss, I was very pleased with the results.
MAC Powerchrome Eye Pencil, Temperature Rising Collection $21
This eye pencil is super creamy and highly pigmented with rich metallic color. It gives off a shimmery glow that can serve as a base or be worn alone.
Estēe Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Waterproof Mascara, Bronze Goddess $26
This waterproof mascara really gives lashes more volume and has great staying power.
Bobbi Brown Face & Body Bronzing Duo, Nude Beach Collection $42
This bronzer is perfect for those who want an all-over glow. In fact, the compact is jumbo-sized to make sure it lasts you all summer long! The lighter of the two shades has a nice rose undertone while the darker shade has a bronzed undertone.
