At the Golden Gecko Spa at Lost Iguana Resort & Spa in Costa Rica, Yonka's Body Wellness Ethiopian Candle Massage is certainly unique. An Ethiopian whipped shea butter and Brazilian mahogany tree oil candle is melted at 90 degrees and the wax is drizzled onto the body and absorbed by the skin. The treatment lasts an hour and costs $80.

San Jose, Costa Rica

The Kuo Spa at the Costa Rica Marriott in San Jose, Costa Rica is located on a 30-acre coffee plantation and incorporates this theme throughout the spa treatments and decor. The signature treatment is the Costa Rican Coffee Scrub, where actual coffee beans are used in the exfoliating and invigorating product. A massage follows the 50-minute scrub, along with a Vichy shower rinse. Once the treatment is completed, guests leave the spa barefoot and by exiting a door where they walk across a shallow trough of coffee beans. Cost: $110.

At the El Dorado Seaside Suites in Riviera Maya, the recently opened NΆAY SPA features indigenous Mayan ingredients, including coffee, chocolate, freshly ground local plants and herbs.  The Kukulkán Four Hand Massage uses natural oils and combines Lomi-Lomi, Reflexology, Shiatsu, and Swedish techniques in an 80 minute treatment that runs $160. If you're feeling brave, finish it up with a Temazcal ritual, the prehispanic ritual steam bath and sweat lodge that purifies the body, mind and spirit simultaneously.

The Kin -- Mayan for sun -- can be cruel to delicate skin. The SPAzul at the all-inclusive Royal Cancun offers a two-hour refreshing full body aloe rescue treatment where you’ll be wrapped in cool muslin sheets soaked in a refreshing herbal infusion, followed by an application of soothing organic aloe gel. It's all followed by a hydrating facial treatment to stop the burn. The total package is $185.
