Arriving Friday at The Space at Skylight Clarkson Square for New York Fashion Week is a respite from the arctic chill gracing New Yorkers with temps in the teens. The show is Karigam, featuring the clothing of Venezuelan designer Karina Gamez’s 2016 Fall/Winter collection.

Gamez told Fox News Latino that the collection was inspired by Salto Angel (Angel Falls) in Venezuela -- the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall.

The line is flush with knotty knits, soft leathers, colorful fur wraps and paired with modern-feminine lines.

“I want the colors – grey-blues, mossy greens, and marsala (wine) tones, to reflect the jungle of Venezuela, but always I think architecture is an important element,” Gamez said.

Only her second appearance at New York Fashion Week, the pulse of the Karigam show thumped along with a heavy bass, not unlike the sounds one might hear in a jungle.

Although the space was essentially sparse, Gamez said she felt the presence of greenery would help to set the tone. Huge vases were filled with tall greenery to represent the place Gamez calls home.

The final look of the show was a flamingo pink fur wrap – a total show-stopper.

A year ago, Gamez opened her company’s headquarters in Miami. She says she spend her days flying back and forth from there to New York.

This latest collection feels confident and feminine – there’s a movement to the clothing while still maintaining structure. Layers of lush leathers and maxi cardigans with skinny trousers and floor-length duster coats, all appear functional and yet elegant.
