Much in the same way that ice cream is used to soothe sore throats and cheesecake is used to mend broken hearts, it turns out that junk food is also the cure for a hangover.
Chinese scientists at the Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, have determined that Sprite is the best remedy for a hangover. The lemon-lime soda was tested along with 56 other beverages, including herbal teas and various carbonated drinks, and it proved to speed up the recovery process.
It works like this: Alcohol is metabolized by the liver into acetaldehyde, which is believed to be responsible for the nausea and headaches that occur after a night of drinking. The acetaldehyde is then processed into acetate, which is more or less harmless. But drinking Sprite, as the researchers found, was shown to speed up these processes, minimizing the exposure of the more harmful enzymes.
The study also determined soda water works too.
These findings are good news for hangover sufferers everywhere, but the team of researchers warns that more tests will be needed to back up these initial findings.
We hope they don't take too long, though. They need to get to work on curing bad eyesight with
