Updated

My favorite month of the year when I was a teen was always August. Not only because I was still on summer vacation but because the big September issue of Vogue and Seventeen were out.

I was always the first one waiting to get my hands on the coveted September issues. I would sit for hours going through the various magazines and thinking how I couldn't wait for the first chill in the air.

This weekend while walking on Fifth Avenue in New York City I got that same feeling when looking at the store windows. So even though it is August and 80 degrees in Manhattan, August is officially the start of fall.

I have already seen fall 2012 runway shows and have had a sneak peek at what is coming. So seeing the store windows were no big surprise but they were a fresh new look and a wonderful reminder of fashion's direction.

Here are some of the trends that I saw and I believe will be important pieces to add to your wardrobe.

More On This...

Saffron, turmeric, paprika, dill and chocolate are a few of the wonderful spice colors that play an important role this season. Adding spice to your closet is definitely something everyone needs to do. Whether you want to mix a few of the colors together or wear one color from head to toe, it works and looks fresh.

Snake, python, alligator, fox or faux it's your choice. This season leather skins and furs are all the rage. I love the leather and fur vest that you can layer with either thick sweaters or soft chiffon dresses. Leather pants and skirts are fitted and made to be worn in and out of the office. You are not into fur? Not to worry. This trend is also available in faux version and still looks amazing.

Black is back! As a New Yorker, I don't believe it was ever out but we have to admit we have embraced a lot more color lately. This season the urban black uniform is on full force and looking fabulous. I love the sleek mix of textures when wearing all black. Try wearing black wool pants with soft black silk blouse and layering it with a black leather jacket and of course suede boots.

These are only three of the many exciting trends to look for this fall season. I can't wait to try these looks and share with you new trends and how to wear them.

Today I am still one of the first to get my big September issues and sit down with a cup of coffee to spend a day dreaming of the first chill in the air.
