Makeup You Can Wear to the Beach

I need some help with beach makeup. I want to look good — even skin tone, rosy cheeks —but I don’t want to look like that girl who is super done up. What should I wear (and what should I avoid)?

Looking good on the beach can seem like a challenging prospect, but a few simple tips and tricks can have you looking your best with stealth makeup looks that won’t give away any secrets.

First thing’s first: be sure to apply sunscreen all over, and sit in the shade whenever possible. Once soaked in, apply a layer of sheer tinted moisturizer on top, blending well. Pat on concealer as needed to cover any blemishes and redness. Bring a natural flush to your cheeks by blending in pink cheek stain, which is water-resistant and will last longer than cream blush. If you need it, blend a little gold-toned highlighter or cream bronzer onto the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, chin, and temples.

Line the upper lash line with dark brown pencil for definition. Apply shimmery peach eyeshadow from the upper lash line to the socket crease. Add a little shimmer under the lower lash line using a gold eyeliner pencil. Apply dark brown waterproof mascara.

For your lips, use a hydrating lip balm with a nude finish and high SPF to protect lips and keep them feeling moist despite sea spray and sun. Nude/brown tones are more flattering with a tan than red. Complete the look with a straw or fabric hat to shade your face and sunglasses to protect your eyes — the perfect way to look glamorous with minimal makeup!
