This week on Being Latino we discussed President Obama’s visit to Puerto Rico – the first by a sitting president in 50 years – and what that meant for the people on the island.
We shook our collective heads at potential presidential hopeful Sarah Palin and her ability to change history, one fact at a time, and Americans' responsibility in giving her the platform on which to do it. Should it be chalked up to just another ‘stupid’ celebrity, or does the ignorance of some in the spotlight pose a danger to society?
We would say it does pose a danger and, to counter some of this ignorance, we featured author Sandra Guzmán, a celebrity who provides thought-provoking insight into the role of Latinas in this day and age.
We also helped to dispel some of the myths about the welfare system and the misconceptions and stereotypes about those who benefit from it in "Welfare: Hand up or Handout."
Through it all, we can be hopeful that despite the evidence to the contrary, ignorance and stupidity have not, in fact, become acceptable characteristics.
