Dominicans Say 'Three Kings' Unfair To Kids

Times are tough. Everyone is cutting back. Even, it seems, the Three Kings.

According to a poll conducted by El Nacional, a national Dominican newspaper, 77.03% of Dominicans believe ‘Los Reyes Magos’ or Three Kings were unfair to kids this year, while only 22.97% of voters believe the three kings rewarded their kids fairly.

Three Kings Day (or “El Día de los Reyes Magos”) is celebrated on January 6, or the Epiphany, which marks the day when Catholics believe The Three Wise Men delivered gifts of frankincense, myrrh and gold to the baby Jesus.

Traditionally, on January 5th, in some parts of Latin America, kids go to sleep with their shoes, grass, and a bowl of water under their beds awaiting the arrival of their the kings and their camels who bring them many gifts. Or, not so many.

Based on statistics from El Nacional Newspaper of the Dominican Republic.
