Recipes to celebrate National Hot Toddy Day

Winter has officially hit but before you bundle up and call it a night, try whipping up a deliciously warm hot toddy cocktail to keep the cold weather blues at bay.

With a particularly nasty flu season gearing up, National Hot Toddy Day could not have come at a better time. If you find yourself with a bad case of the sniffles or have other cold and flu  symptoms, a few sips of one of  these brews may be just what you need to warm up and feel better--at least temporarily.

Rye Ginger Toddy

This spicy twist on a traditional hot toddy uses Darjeeling tea and a captivating rosemary simple syrup. Created by mixologist Angel Cervantez at Capella in Washington, D.C., this is a mouthwatering cocktail for those who take their drinks seriously. Recipe: Rye Ginger Toddy

Gin Toddy

This drink proves the gin isn't just for summertime. Use a London Dry Gin, like Bulldog, and remember as you sip that this variation has a higher concentration of alcohol than a traditional Toddy.

The Yuzu Toddy

This take on the Toddy uses yuzu, a Japanese citrus fruit. It was created by Derek Alexander (shown here with his drink), the head bartender at Chicago's Longman and Eagle, and is sure to warm you up even if you have been exposed to the icy winds blowing off Lake Michigan. You can find yuzu rind and juice online.

Sneaky Pete Hot Apple Cider

Ok, so this one isn't a toddy, but it will still keep you toasty during flu season. Plus, Apples Away Sneaky Pete juice is full of fiber.
