Way before American painter Jackson Pollock came up with the groundbreaking idea to splash paint off a brush and onto a canvas, he lived in this two-story, 98-year-old home in Chico, CA. While he would later become famous for blurring the lines of composition and perception, the artist lived amid this traditional home's clean lines.

Now on the market for $900,000, the cute and tidy four-bedroom home was built in 1908, and housed Jackson, his parents, and four older brothers from 1917 to 1920. It's located on an 18.5-acre lot that backs up to Big Chico Creek. The property includes a perfect little one-bedroom studio apartment in the backyard (perhaps a painter's studio for the next Pollock?).

The main house has light-filled rooms, some of which look out onto the property's orchard. Two of its three bedrooms are on the renovated second floor. Its front porch and landscaped backyard with a patio are cozy spots to chill.

Recent interior updates include refinished red-fir floors and fresh paint on the walls. Outside, a new sprinkler system, new sod, new concrete sidewalks, and new wrought-iron fencing have been installed.

Side note: The current owners, who have been operating the property as a rental -- charging $2,500 a month for the home and the studio -- are willing to lease out the 17-acre orchard of Chandler walnuts, a leading commercial variety.
