After spiffing up his Battery Park City condo in Manhattan, memoirist Augusten Burroughs -- whose works include "Running With Scissors" and the upcoming " Lust & Wonder: A Memoir," which chronicles his New York love affairs -- sold his former home in late December, according to 6sqft.

The 615-square-feet studio was listed at $599,000 and sold for $637,000, says listing agent Kelly Deadmon.

"The open houses were packed. People had offers in almost immediately," says Deadmon, including one prospective buyer who hadn't even viewed the listing yet.

To prep the condo for sale, Burroughs had the walls repainted a neutral hue and the floors refinished.

"He had painted all these fabulous colors," says Deadmon. "One wall was literally sheet music. The sheet music was hard to get off."

Battery Park City, in Lower Manhattan, is in the middle of an evolution. One of its many attractions is the new Brookfield Place featuring numerous restaurants and shops.

"Battery Park is a fantastic place to be," says Deadmon. "It's really changed a lot."

During Hurricane Sandy this was the only building that didn't lose power, she says, adding that the condo's corner location was a huge draw for potential buyers.

"That made it very appealing, because of the (Statue of Liberty) view." The building's residents also get access to an indoor pool.

Burroughs snapped up the unit about a decade ago. "He's ready for a different phase in his life -- ready to move on to something else," says Deadmon, adding that he lived in the unit with two dogs.
