Former St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger has been trying to score a touchdown with the sale of his 22-room mansion in the St. Louis area. Now, he's apparently ready to settle for a field goal.

He's cut the listing price on the historic home, known locally as the Percy Orthwein House, to $5,995,000. It was originally listed for $7,499,000 in May 2014.

The home sits on 6.5 acres in Huntleigh, an equestrian enclave 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis. The home was built by noted St. Louis architects Maritz & Young in 1930, and the original owner had ties to the Busch family of Anheuser-Busch and Budweiser fame.

Built in a French country -- style, the six-bedroom mansion measures 11,587 square feet. The second-floor master suite includes an updated master bathroom with jetted tub and steam shower. There's also a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, large outdoor pool with decks, and an outdoor fireplace.

The newly redone kitchen features granite countertops and state-of-the-art appliances. Also, there's a four-car detached garage.

The signal-caller bought the home in 2007, fresh off signing a $62.5 million contract extension with the Rams. His deal came with $27 million in guaranteed money and made him the highest-paid Ram ever at the time.

While he's had a tough go with timing the real estate market, he timed his contract just right. After re-signing with the team for big bucks, his record as the Rams QB was a disappointing 5-30 and he was released by the team after the 2009 season.
