Brace yourselves design lovers, an Aldo Rossi house is for sale.

Listed for $11.8 million, this isn't just any Rossi design (if there is such a thing). It's the only known Rossi residence in the United States and the last home the acclaimed neorationalist completed before he died, according to Christie's International Real Estate.

Architectural critic Ada Louise Huxtable described Rossi as a "poet who happens to be an architect." His designs had a strong link to the architectural history of the area and flowed seamlessly into the surroundings. This secluded home on the edge of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, is no exception. In addition to the 3,043 square feet of indoor living space, there's 2,693 square feet of outdoor living space.

On the ground level, a covered terrace offers an outdoor shower and cooking space. Stacked above the terraces is an impressive deck. With access directly off the dining room, triple sets of french doors can be opened to the Gulf of Mexico breeze.

And for a panoramic view, there's a rooftop deck accessed through a retractable row of motorized skylights.

"The skylights are retractable," says listing agent Rick Moeser. "The whole thing backs up so you can walk upstairs and out to the deck at the push of a button."

Inside, the two-story home is modern with a beach vibe. The hardwood floors in the living room play off the white wood benches and white wood-panel walls. Cathedral ceilings and rows of windows lend the space a bright and airy feel.

The kitchen is contemporary, with a stainless-steel range hood, cherry cabinetry, and frosted-glass cabinet doors.

The master bedroom is a calm space, with its neutral-colored flooring, whitewashed walls, and a row of floor-to-ceiling windows that have an unencumbered view of the Gulf.

The whole place is pristine. "You can tell Rossi put thought into every detail," says Moeser. "And it was kept up well and used very gently."

The home sits back from the beach, and the property comes with the two lots directly in front of the home. The new buyer has the option of adding on, selling the lots, or just keeping the home secluded by nature.

The home is walking distance to Seaside, a small beach community offering dining, entertainment, and a decidedly laid-back atmosphere.

"Seaside is such a cool town. Very much a sort of barefoot, casual community where everyone sort of walks around," says Moeser.

So who's ready to kick off their shoes and head to the beach? We'll meet you for a drink on the rooftop deck.
