And you thought skeleton racing looked scary.

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Tursimo is a race car concept designed as an homage to the radical Chaparral racers of the 1960’s.

The Chaparrals were known for their innovative aerodynamic designs, and the 2X is no different.

Described as a wing suit for the road, the driver lays down in it head first, arms and legs spread out towards the wheels where they steer the vehicle and adjust its aerodynamic profile. There's word yet on what type of safety systems are provided.

The car is powered by a beamed-energy propulsion system, which uses a laser to create shockwaves that are directed through a shroud that provides 900 hp worth of thrust, enabling 0-60 mph sprints of 1.5 seconds and a top speed of 240 mph -- at least in the virtual world.

While Chevy built a full-scale model of the car for display at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2X will only be available as a download for the PS3 game Gran Turismo 6, so, lay down on the floor and give it a go.
