Sorry, you can’t buy a new car in the United States for ten grand anymore.

The closest you can get is the bargain basement Nissan Versa sedan at $12,780. It’s a decent car that offers good fuel economy and a lot of room for the price, but for budget-minded shoppers hoping for something a little more substantial, maybe not quite the ticket.

For them, a used car is the only way to go, and Cars.com has come up with a list of the 10 best cars you can buy for $10,000 or less.

Editors took into account reliability, drivability and practicality, and only considered cars with good crash test scores and the latest safety equipment. There’s not a lot of excitement or luxury on the list, but if you need to get from here to there, often, you could do worse:
