SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. – No use crying over spilt Merlot.
A Wisconsin liquor store had an unfortunate loss of inventory when a shelving unit holding 6,810 bottles of wine and champagne collapsed.
The mishap occurred in July but the store, Superior Discount Liquor, recently posted surveillance video of the collapse of YouTube, shown below.
"I heard a little shift and all of the sudden I looked up and just saw bottles start coming, and so I turned around and booked it as fast as I could," Badger Liquor Co. salesman Nick Haen told the Sheboygan Press.
Peter Guske was standing towards the back of the store when the shelves gave way, creating a "domino effect."
"I was standing in awe," Guske said. "I couldn't believe what was happening."
No one was injured during the shelving collapse.
Among the nearly 7,000 broken bottles were wines ranging from $4.99 to $189.00.
"I figured we would be working for days cleaning up glass," Manager Lori Gregorie told the Sheboygan Press. "There was wine running out the front door, wine running out the back door."
Employees cleaned the mess within a day and replaced the shelf with the same kind of shelving. Insurance reportedly covered the losses.
The store says they may have a sale following the shelving collapse video's viral success.
