It was a risk and an experiment never tried before in the U.S. Who thought the aging wine in salt water would work?

Mary Quinn O'Connor

I graduated from the University of Florida in May 2010 and this is my first job out of school. I started off as an intern for Fox, and was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time. I could have never imagined working for the Fox News Channel as a 22-year-old. It is more than a dream come true! In school, I studied Political Science, Telecommunications, and Florida Gator football. You won’t meet a bigger Gator fan than me.
I am originally from Orlando, Fla. and I am the middle child. My parents have three girls within three years of each other, making me 33 percent responsible for my father's gray hair. I come from a very large family, having 28 first cousins. Most of my greatest childhood memories stem from wonderful vacations and holidays with family. When we would get together, my grandfather would pay us a dollar for every lap we could run around his house. We all thought it was pure fun; now that I’m older, I realize it was his way of getting all the grandkids out of the house so he could enjoy New Years Day football games in peace.
I grew up fishing, going to Gator football games, playing volleyball and loving journalism. My passion for journalism took flight in tenth grade when I was chosen to be a part of the “Orlando Sentinel High School Reporting Institute,” where I had the opportunity to work with some of the best journalists in the state and write my own pieces to be published. From that point on, I never looked back.
My future career in broadcasting was confirmed in college as I decided I would take a few business courses to have a well-rounded background. After a semester of Financial Accounting and a semester of Finance, I could not be more certain that this is the path for me. I rarely deal with numbers in this profession. (It’s safe to say I will never be reporting from the New York Stock Exchange.)
I am based out of Columbia, S.C. and I love working in the South. I have stayed busy as some of the biggest GOP players are constantly coming through South Carolina as they gear up for the 2012 election. I have had the luxury of working with politicians like Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Lindsey Graham and many more. My passion is covering politics and I hope to one day be a political correspondent for Fox. I look forward to what the next two years will bring and hope to be a valuable asset to the Fox family.
