The Style Guide is asked time and time again if it's possible to be pregnant and stylish. We believe it is. Just take a look at Fox News reporter, Courtney Friel! Still not convinced? We asked Fox News' fashion director, Gwen Marder for some tips and tricks on looking fabulous in maternity.

What should pregnant women consider when beginning to shop for maternity clothes?

You don't want to break the bank on clothes that you will be wearing for only six months.  Spend money on clothes that will suit your lifestyle and get basics that can be mixed and matched.

Liz Lange, a maternity clothing designer, said in an interview last year said, "When shopping, pregnant women shouldn't have to completely change their style. In fact, they should look for pieces that they usually wear when they're not pregnant and should replace them with maternity versions.”

What's the first thing pregnant women should buy?

The breasts will be the first area on a woman's body that will change.  The first trip to a maternity store for a pregnant woman should be to purchase a bra that is comfortable and fits well.

What are career clothes must-haves?

- A pencil skirt and a skinny trouser with elastic expandable belly panels

- Black and white belly covering camisoles

- Twin sets that can be worn separately

- A wrap dress (that expands when needed)

- A maternity blazer that can be worn unbuttoned

- A button-down shirt

What are some weekend must-haves?

Motherhood Maternity has a wonderful "Basics in a Bag" package for $44.98 that takes the guessing out of weekend dressing.  The package  includes:

- A short sleeve black tee

- A long sleeve black tee

- A white layering cami

- Full length black yoga pants

Add to this a pair of comfortable jeans and black leggings and you are styling ...

Are there any rules a pregnant woman should follow?

- Stick to your personal style.

- Don't wear oversized, baggy, amorphous shapes.  They make you look bigger then you are.

- Don't be afraid to show off your curves. Celebrate them. Wear clothes that are fitted but never tight.

- Wear dark colors, black, navy, charcoal.  These colors give the body a slimmer line.

- Never wear items that have horizontal lines.

What are the best places to shop?

- Motherhood Maternity

- Stella Maternity

- Isabella Oliver

- A Pea in the Pod
