Hippie ChicWhether you’re revisiting the seventies or experiencing it for the first time, the disco decade is back! While Tommy Hilfiger seemed to channel Lauren Hutton with his slouchy and silk printed palazzo pants, chunky knits, printed blouses and tailored coats, Tracy Reese wowed us with her fluid and floor length pleated skirts. Tory Burch followed suit with autumnal colors and prints, wide leg pants, fluid blouses and textured knee-length dresses.

Long HemlinesSome designers pulled more seventies inspiration from Love Story than Studio 54. Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley and Jill Stuart were just a few who showed buttoned up knits, swingy coats, polka dots, geometric prints and pencil skirts with longer hemlines.

Cropped PantsNo one does the seventies like Diane! We’re sure the iconic designer needed to look no farther than her own photo albums to create a runway filled with looks fit for an independent woman. Putting a twist on tailoring, her jade culottes with matching blouse and boots was a favorite look. Marc Jacobs and Rachel Comey also showed cropped pants and tailored tops for fall.

Foliage FabricsSome designers take autumnal inspiration literally! Both Raul Melgoza of Luca Luca and Jill Stuart designed their collections with forests in mind - Raul describing his catwalk as "a run through the woods" and Jill looked to Germany's black forest for inspiration. Rebecca Taylor also put a cool spin on florals with her cobalt blue and burgundy fabrics.

Fur AccentsPeta members – skip this slide!
Featured by a bevy of designers, fur is a huge trend for fall. While Derek Lam paired a luxurious vest with a sleek and minimal dress and Carolina Herrera added fur sleeves to a tweed jacket, it was Donna Karan who blew us away using fur to accent her muted, icy hues, signature silk draping and ultra glamorous opera gloves.

Feathery FlairFor the dressier set, designers showed romantic styles in silvery hues featuring feathers, lace and crystal accents. Jason Wu was inspired by a Robert Polidori book on the 25-year restoration of Versailles: his tailored skirts, sheer blouses and billowing gowns reflected the Parisian flair and elegant adornment of the French palace.

Pretty in PlaidSome designers had travel on their minds ,creating looks that were both functional and fashionable. Thakoon chose to reinvent a classic peplum jacket, featuring it in a puffy, quilted plaid that would be perfect for a fall vaca in Scotland. And at the always interesting Y-3 show, eclectic designer Yohji Yamamoto put a sporty spin on plaid proving even a woodsman can look chic.

Flowy FabricsWhen it comes to evening wear (the looks you may see on the red carpet this fall), designers opted for floaty, feminine fabrics and romantic silhouettes. Rodarte showed an asymmetrical style in a painterly silk that was angelic. Derek Lam presented a pleated and plaid gown to die for. And Zang Toi created an interesting juxtaposition pairing a t-neck knit with swaths of pleated chiffon.
