Planning an Atlanta Trip?Don’t underestimate the Peach State when you’re looking to get away. Not only is it easy to get here – thanks to the world’s busiest airport, but the city has competitive hotel prices and affordable public transportation. All this makes it easier on the wallet and fun for the whole gang.
When you get here, there’s no lack of things to do! Here’s a good variety:
-
1. The Georgia AquariumThis is a no-brainer! It’s located in the heart of downtown Atlanta so it’s easy to get to and the Guinness Book World Record has named the Georgia Aquarium the largest in the world. It holds more than 8.5 million gallons of fresh and salt water. It is also home to more than 120,000 species – probably some you never knew existed.

2. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History & The High Museum of ArtThe Fernbank Museum is home to the world's largest dinosaurs. And if that's not worth the trip in itself, its IMAX® theatre plays shows that will take you back in time. The 160,000-square-foot natural history museum is one of the only museums in the world to grow out of a forest. For years it's been one of the most popular attractions in Atlanta, with almost a half-million visitors who come each year.
After a visit to the Fernbank, head to the High Museum of Art. It's the leading art museum in the Southeast. You can feast your eyes on more than 11,000 works of art in its permanent collection. The High is known for its broad collection of art from both the 19th and 20th-century. It includes American works, African-American art, contemporary art and European paintings.

3. Callaway GardensIf you're looking for peace and tranquility, go to Callaway Gardens. There's more than 13,000-acres of gorgeous gardens and preserves nestled in the southernmost foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It’s a short jaunt from Atlanta to Pine Mountain, Ga. There's something for everyone in your party. If you come during the holidays the entire garden lights up - literally. More than eight million twinkling lights perfectly placed in about a dozen scenes. When you drive though the Gardens it feels like you’re surrounded with festive colors and carols. It's the most spectacular holiday light show in the South.

4. Georgia's CoastDon't underestimate Georgia's coastline! Try a visit to Jekyll Island. A museum on the island will take you back in time. The historic landmark district offers range of historical and archaeological artifacts. You can check out historic photographs and relics from the island's Native American past. Don't leave without taking a tour of the island; the guide will include every detail.

5. Coca-ColaIt’s an American staple. Take your taste buds to the world of Coca-Cola. Check out the 1,200 artifacts that have never been displayed to the public before. Naturally, you will have the refreshing chance to sample and enjoy 60 different Coca-Cola beverages from around the world. The ultimate ‘ah’ experience.
With all this traveling you may get hungry. Good thing Atlanta has more than 500 Zagat-rated restaurants providing food varieties from around the world. If beverages are more your thing, there are dozens of famous wine and tequila bars.
And if there is something on this list that’s not for you, Atlanta has its own opera, ballet, symphony and zoo. Don’t forget about Margaret Mitchell’s mansion or the antebellum homes in Roswell’s Historic District. Families don’t forget, the city also has a Children’s Museum and Six Flags over Georgia amusement park.
