When someone you love gains an unhealthy amount of weight, its difficult to know what to do. Should you tell her and risk hurting her feelings? Or should you wait to see if they will make a lifestyle change? Television host, Dr. Phil has the answer for one iMag viewer!

Dear Dr. Phil,

Should I tell my wife she’s gained weight and if so, how?

Dr. Phil: If we are talking to men and they have a death wish, then yeah, they can tell their wives they’ve gained weight. But one of the best things you can do is try to inspire. She doesn’t need you to tell her if she’s gained weight. Trust me, she knows. She looks in the mirror; she’s not in denial, and she doesn’t need your judgment to motivate her. What you can do is inspire her to have a healthier lifestyle for the two of you. So you do things together: you start eating better and you start exercising together. But she doesn’t need you to start telling her something she already knows.

Men aren’t nearly as sensitive as women are about this. So if it's a woman speaking to a man, tell him to jack it up, get off the couch and break a sweat cause you don’t want to look at his beer belly. You’d rather see a six pack than a keg. Men can handle that because they have a different sensitivity level. It's not that they are tougher, its just different sensitivities.
