Dr. Phil on Divorce

Before you make that big decision, consider this!

Whether you've been married for one, ten or 25 years, asking for a divorce is a big decision. One iMag viewer wrote in to television host,  Dr.Phil on whether or not a divorce is right for her.

Dear Dr. Phil,

My marriage has reached a breaking point and I’m thinking of asking for a divorce. What should I do?

Dr. Phil: I think we get divorced too quickly in America. I think we sometimes say “well I’m not having fun anymore.” The questions you have to ask yourself are “Have I done everything I can to rehabilitate this marriage? Have I looked under every stone? Investigated every potential avenue of rehabilitation?” And if the answer is “yes” then you will know because you will have no unfinished emotional business with this person. But if you’re still angry, resentful or hurtful, then you have unfinished emotional business and you’re not ready. Earn your way out of a marriage, don’t just quit because it’s not fun anymore.
