Do I Have To Be Her Bridesmaid?
All your wedding etiquette questions answered!
Weddings can get expensive, especially for the people walking down the aisle who aren't getting married! So what do you do if you're not up to the task of being in the wedding party, but you've been asked? We went to Sharon Stimpfle, deputy site director of weddingchannel.com to get her expert advice on how to get out of bridesmaid duty.
If I'm asked to be a bridesmaid, do I have to say yes?
No. If a bridesmaid feels like she is not up for the monetary or time commitment, she can decline gracefully. And brides should consider this. If you do say no, however, decline from the get-go. Say, "I would love to, but right now my budget is really tight" or "I'm in school" or "I have to travel a lot for work and don't think I'll be able to participate in all of the events before the wedding".
