5 Eco-Friendly Wedding Ideas
Creating lasting memories without taking a lasting toll on the environment!
A wedding is one of the most important days in a couple’s life. But with the average cost running at around $20,000, they can be big productions with even bigger footprints, both ecological and economical. For all of those eco-conscious brides out there, you can be green and still wear white! We went to Anna-Mieke Anderson, CEO and founder of The Green Diamond Project, who gave us tips on how to throw an elegant, yet environmentally friendly wedding.
The Dress: You can do one of two things here: either take your mom’s, aunt’s or someone else in your life who is very important to you and reuse the material from their dress to create your own without using new fabrics. The other way to go is through a retailer like Threadhead Creations that uses all recycled fabrics to create their dresses.
Invitations: It’s all in the paper! You can use “plantable” or recycled paper. Vendors like Eco Friendly Invitations have great options.
Rings: Now there are not only eco-friendly stones, but also eco-friendly metals available, so couples can have totally green engagement rings as well as wedding bands! Miadonna & Co. has some gorgeous options.
Favors: From flower pots and beeswax candles to reusable tote bags, there are plenty of fun gifts your guests will feel good about taking home. Beau Coup has some innovative suggestions.
Flowers: Keep it local! Flowers are often imported from developing countries where pesticide use is common and wages are low. Choosing a florist where organically grown, in-season, local flowers are used is an earth-friendly choice. This will remove the need for long-distance transportation as well! Make a few calls to local vendors and see what they can do!
