Smoothies are a great way to get the nutrients you need, but a traditional store-bought smoothie can contain over 500 calories. How can you get a great tasting smoothie that won't cost you calories? Make your own at home. iMag went to Noelle Twiggs, wellness expert and founder of Greenlemonade.com for her delicious and detoxifying smoothie recipes.
Basil and Mango Green Smoothie:
Makes 2 Servings, 250 calories per serving
Ingredients:
2 Cups water
1 1/2 Cup almond milk
2 Cups mango, frozen
1/4 Cup cashews
3 Sprigs basil, stems removed
4 to 5 Ice cubes
Lime slices, for garnish
Directions:
- Place water, almond milk, mango, cashews, basil and ice cubes into a blender.
- Combine until smooth and creamy.
- Pour into two glasses and savor and garnish with lime if desired.
Strawberry and Banana Smoothie with Chia Seeds:
Makes 1 serving, 300 calories per serving
Ingredients:
1 1/2 Bananas, frozen
1 Cup strawberries, frozen
1 Cup water
1/2 Cup almond milk
1 Tablespoon of chia seeds
4 Ice cubes
Directions:
- Combine bananas, strawberries, water, almond milk, chia seeds and ice into a high speed blender.
- Combine until thick and creamy.
- Pour and enjoy!
Makes 1 Serving
Ingredients:
1 Cup Blue Diamond Almond Milk (Unsweetened Vanilla or Original)
1 Banana, frozen
1 Tablespoon almond butter
1 Teaspoon sliced almonds (optional)
3 Ice cubes
Directions:
- Combine the above ingredients into a blender.
- Purée until smooth and frothy.
- Add more almond milk to thin if desired.
- Top with sliced almonds and enjoy!
