Beauty Bit: Scar Solution

Tips to covering up your tattoos and scars.

It was an accident and now you have a permanent reminder. Maybe it’s a scar … maybe it’s your ex’s name on your upper thigh. Either way, there will come a point when you don't want it on display. Whether it’s for a job interview, or maybe just meeting his parents, there are times when you need to cover it up. Wanda Longo, Global Communications Director for Cover FX, suggests the following steps for hiding a tattoo or scar.

COVER FX Total Coverage Cream foundation is ideal for covering tattoos because it provides full coverage, it's easy to apply and blend and contains SPF 30 to protect the tattoo from being lightened from the sun.

1. Start by color matching the natural skin tone where the tattoo (or scar) is located. Remember skin tone may vary from the face to the body so test the shade on the appropriate area first.

2. Then apply a small amount of foundation onto the tattoo in a patting or stippling motion staying close to the skin so as not to move it. Use a synthetic brush to apply the foundation because synthetic brushes deposit more color than brushes with natural fibers.

3. Finally, set with Setting FX Translucent Powder.

For darker tattoos: While black ink tattoos are more difficult to cover, you can still achieve great results with a little patience.

1. The first step is to lighten the area in order to blank or lift the color out. So apply a cover up like the Conceal FX Camouflage Concealer, making sure it is a few shades lighter than your skin tone around the entire outline of the tattoo.

2. Next apply the Cover FX shade matching the natural skin tone using the same patting and blending technique until desired coverage is achieved.

3. Finish by setting the foundation with Setting FX Translucent Powder. While this is only a temporary fix, it’ll certainly get you through that interview (either with a prospective new boss, OR his overly conservative parents).

And perhaps next time you better re-think that ink. For more tips on how to get a great foundation for everyday makeup, click here.

Beauty Quick Tip

Too Much Sun: July is Melanoma awareness month and when it comes to skin cancer, there’s no such thing as “too much sun”.  Any amount of sun puts you at risk.  So spafinder has created a bracelet that will turn colors when you’ve been exposed to too many harmful rays.  With a sliver plate that says “I Will Reflect”, the bracelet serves as a fun reminder to apply and re-apply sunscreen, or to get out of the sun altogether.
