When it comes to home renovations, kitchens are often the most expensive. A beautiful, well-functioning kitchen, however, can vastly increase the value of your home. So how can you improve your kitchen without spending a fortune?

We asked Stephen Fanuka, host of “Million Dollar Contractor,” for his money-saving secrets.

1. Cabinets
“Cabinets are often the most expensive facet of any kitchen renovation,” he says. “If you can save the cabinets, you can save up to 70 percent of your budget.” He suggests swapping out the hardware and updating your cabinets with a myriad of options that include bronze, brass, polished or brushed nickel, or stainless steel.

2. Backsplash
Fanuka says if your backsplash is in good shape, you can buy a new one and apply it right on top of the old one.

3. Countertops
Granite and marble countertops can be as much as $45 per square foot, so Fanuka suggests re-sealing or re-polishing the ones you already have.

4. Change the sink or the faucet.

5. Change out the appliances.

6. Add new lighting.

Watch Stephen's tips in the video below.
