Sex column: Women can have orgasms a variety of ways, some non-sexual

Sex expert Trilce Ortiz talks about some of the more unusual ways some women can experience an orgasm, such as childbirth and getting a haircut.

Many sexually active women can spend a lot of time chasing the ecstasy of orgasms.

Fortunately, women are multi-orgasmic and, with some exploration and practice, can achieving their sexual peak in more than one way.

For instance, due to macho culture, many people have wrongly assumed that heterosexual women need men to be able to achieve orgasms. The truth is manual masturbation and the use of sex toys are pretty straight-forward ways in which women can reach them.

Beyond the obvious means, however, there are some less common ways in which women around the world have found themselves achieving orgasms.

Exercising

More On This...

Non sex-related physical activity is a great way of helping you stay in shape and healthy.

On top of that, 5 percent of women who exercise on a regular basis have found themselves having orgasms while working out. This is particularly possible when the exercise routine targets the central and lower abdominal muscles.

Riding a horse

The old wives’ tale of young women losing their virginity while riding a bike or a horse isn't true at all, but achieving orgasm is a completely different matter. Riding a horse increases the flow of blood toward the vulva and clitoris. Add the continuous motion of the horse and riding can lead to pleasurable and unexpected orgasms.

Brain orgasm

Physical contact is not always necessary for women to orgasm. As a matter of fact, most women respond really well to other forms of stimulation, including sound. Oftentimes women can reach orgasm simply by being exposed to sexual sounds or by having their partners talk dirty to them, whether there is actual physical stimulation or not.

Giving birth

One of the most painful, yet incredible experiences a woman can have, childbirth can sometimes gift new moms with incredible orgasms. According to the Independent, as many as 6 percent of women have orgasms while delivering babies.

Getting a hairdo

Although it isn’t very common, some women can have a orgasm-like experience, restricted to the head, thanks to a phenomenon called Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It generally occurs while getting a haircut, but for some women it can also happen while brushing their hair or applying make-up.
