Behind woman's wonky Fitbit data: she's pregnant

A couple in New York City have good news to share thanks to some wonky Fitbit data and a helpful Redditor: They're expecting. YoungPTone, who identifies himself only as David, posted about issues with his wife's Fitbit on a Reddit thread last week, suspecting a problem with the device's sensor.

It's "showing her heartbeat being consistently high over the last few days," he wrote. David tells BuzzFeed his wife's resting heart rate would reach up to 110 beats per minute.

Then one day, "she logged 10 hours in the fat-burning zone, which I would think to be impossible based on her activity level," and seemed to burn no extra calories, he said.

"It's not lining up." Some users responded that a recent firmware update made heart rate tracking "inconsistent," reports the Guardian. But another Redditor asked if it was possible his wife might be pregnant.

"Pregnancy is a strong possibility," David replied. "I might be a dad, YIKES. Now I gotta watch my own heart rate." He explains the couple had been trying to have a baby for a few months, but he had no idea that a higher than normal heart rate was a symptom of pregnancy.

A day after his original post, he confirmed his first child is due in October. "It's definitely a great story to tell [the baby] one day," David says, adding the couple is "happy to have all the support of people on Reddit." (A trooper pulled over a couple, then delivered their baby.)
