A New York City kindergartener who had been diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure is home with a new kidney after more than 100 people who volunteered to be tested as potential donors for her.
The Daily News said Sunday that 6-year-old Kinsey Saleh went home to Queens earlier this month after a May 27 transplant at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Kinsey was diagnosed in January. Her doctors aren't sure of what caused her condition, which can be fatal.
Her parents couldn't donate kidneys because of medical conditions. Kinsey underwent dialysis three times a week while waiting for a donor.
After a Daily News story in March, 101 people volunteered for testing.
Ultimately, Kinsey's donor was a family acquaintance. The newspaper says he doesn't want his name to be publicly known.
