INDIO, Calif. – Health officials are bringing tuberculosis testing to all staff and students at a Southern California high school after a student was diagnosed and five others are being examined for signs of the illness.
Riverside County's Department of Public Health says a testing clinic will be held Friday for 1,800 people at Indio High School after a student last month was diagnosed with tuberculosis.
The department says more than 130 students were tested for the illness on Monday and 45 tested positive for possible exposure.
Department spokesman Jose Arballo Jr. says follow-up X-rays showed five students needed further examination. He says those students were sent home on Thursday.
Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser says the testing is being done as a precaution.
