Health care has been front and center this election year, but getting in shape is always ‘on the ticket’ for gyms such as New York Sports Club.
Inspired by the upcoming election, the fitness chain has come up with its newest class – ‘Fit for Office.’
“It’s a circuit-based class, so it’s cardio and strength together, which is way more engaging and way more fun for the members,” explained Prince Brathwaite, a fitness instructor at New York Sports Club.
The class is 45 minutes long and features campaign-themed music from the past three decades, like Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop.”
Various workouts are given names like ‘Paul Ryan Abs,’ which are sit-ups with oblique twists, ‘Michelle Obama Arms,’ which put a new spin on push-ups, and ‘Battle Ground,’ which involves taking battle ropes in two hands and creating a wave-like motion.
“You work the upper and lower body together as well as involving your core,” Brathwaite said. “What that does is make your body work in unison, and you burn more calories…by moving non-stop to the next station, it really puts a shock on your body and you get the most of your workout.”
