Kraft Foods Group has issued a voluntary recall of jalapeno string cheese, the FDA said in a statement.

The recall is meant as a precaution due to a chance that a thin layer of packaging plastic could remain on the product after it is opened – potentially causing a choking hazard.  Jalapeno string cheese products that are being recalled have a “Best When Used By” date of Nov. 23, 2012 and UPC code of 2100002977.  Sizes affected include 12 oz. bags with 12 individual 1 oz. snacks.

According to Kraft, the expiration date appears on the back of the bag in the bottom right corner.  One consumer complaint has been reported, and approximately 2,700 cases of the impacted product have been distributed throughout the United States.

Those who have received the recalled product – which was produced in Campbell, N.Y. – should not eat it and return it for either an exchange or full refund.
